July Athlete of the Month



Congratulations to this amazing woman.  She has been through so much inside and outside of CFET and she always manages to show up and put in work.  We couldn’t have been more proud of you Melissa.  You are inspiration to your husband and 2 sons and we love that you all workout together (almost all 🙂 ).


It’s a great honor to have you as our July “AOTM”.  Here is to a new month, new goals and lots of PRs.  Continue to do what you are doing and we cannot wait to see you progress!


Lets get to know this young athlete a little better, shall we….


  1. Name:  Melissa Conroy.
  2. How old are you?  45
  3. Where did you grow up?  Tucson, AZ.
  4. When did you become a member at Crossfit East Tucson? In 2012.
  5. What type of program or exercise/s were you doing before you tried Crossfit?  Running with my husband, circuit training and spin classes at LA Fitness and (now defunct) Skin and Body Fitness.
  6. What is your profession?  Sales Manager and Co-Owner at Real London Bus Company.
  7. What else do you like to do outside of Crossfit East Tucson? (Hobbies and likes)  Work on double-decker buses :-), read books and hang out with my 2 sons.
  8. How did you find out about Crossfit East Tucson? The website and we lived really close.
  9. When did you first know that Crossfit is right for you?  I had just had my 2nd son and was tired of the usual stuff, though that was after I had been doing open gym WODs with my husband for a while.  FYI, if your husband offers to be your coach, probably best to change the subject LOL.
  10. What is your least favorite WOD or movement and why? Strict Press and Overhead Squat.
  11. What is your favorite WOD or movement? Front or Back Squats.
  12. Brag about yourself.Since you have been in CFET, we have seen your growth as an athlete. Tell us about your journey.  I’m still doing it after all these years!  
  13. Do you know FRAN? If you do, how do you feel about her and what is your time? If you don’t know her, are you excited to meet her because I heard she is pretty amazing?  Yes, I do know FRAN and I don’t like her.  Around 7:32.
  14. What or who motivates you during your WODs?  My husband and the great coaches! 
  15. What is that one thing you thought you could never do at CFET but succeeded to get it done? Actually being able to do some double-unders.  
  16. Tell us something about yourself that not a lot of people know about? The weirder the better. 🙂  In 2006, I was in St. Josephs’ ICU for 6 weeks, in a coma for 8 weeks, had a tracheostomy among other things and ultimately had to learn how to walk and talk again.  
  17. Do you have any advice for new Crossfitters?  Keep coming, you can scale anything!
  18. Who is your favorite Crossfit Athlete?  Justin Conroy!  
  19. Describe yourself in one word:  Fighter.
  20. Which class do you usually take?  6:30 p.m.
  21. If you had to program a WOD, what would it be?
