Athlete of the Month

  1. Name: Leslie
  2. How old are you? 16
  3. Where did you grow up? Tucson, AZ
  4. When did you become a member at CrossFit East Tucson? I became a member in February 2015.
  5. What type of program or exercise/s were you doing before you tried CrossFit? Before CrossFit I played soccer for about 6 years and before that softball for about 8 years.
  6. What is your profession? I am a full time student at Cienega High School, I am currently a junior.
  7.  What else do you like to do outside of CrossFit East Tucson? Outside of CrossFit I spend most of my free time hanging out with my friends.
  8. How did you find out about CrossFit East Tucson? Before I joined both my parents were currently involved and we’re always telling me about it. It wasn’t until I was told I can’t play soccer anymore that I even tried it out and I instantly fell in love with it.
  9. When did you first know that CrossFit is right for you? I first decided CrossFit was right for me after the first two weeks when I started to meet all the people and then the open started. Before I was afraid it would get boring just working out everyday but then finding out you were able to compete and have something to work towards really caught my attention.
  10. What is your least favorite WOD or movement and why?  If I had to choose my least favorite movement would have to be wall balls because my neck starts to hurt and the ball always knocks me out and screws up my whole pace.
  11. What is your favorite WOD or movement? I surprisingly have two favorites, clean and jerks and pull-ups, there is just something about doing them that gives me so much excitement to just keep getting better at them. Mostly pull-ups only because I feel like an Olympic gymnast even if I may not look like one while doing them.
  12. Brag about yourself. Since you have been in CFET, we have seen your growth as an athlete. Tell us about your journey. When I first started crossfit I was never too excited about coming because I was still upset about not being able to play soccer. However, after meeting all the amazing people and being able to participate in its environment and all the things we do it has become my favorite place to be. I now look forward to coming everyday and seeing everyone.
  13. Do you know FRAN? If you do, how do you feel about her and what is your time? If you don’t know her, are you excited to meet her because I heard she is pretty amazing? I know of FRAN but I have never completed it, I can only imagine she would kick my butt. She is very similar to open workout 15.5 which just makes me that much more scared of ever meeting her.
  14. What or who motivates you during your WOD’s? Watching everyone go through the same workout and having them cheer you on even if they’re currently dying themselves is what motivates me. Having that many people support you in what you love as well as share the same passion is something so many people strive for and knowing I have that makes me love it that much more.
  15. What is that one thing you thought you could never do at CFET but succeeded to get it done? I never that I would ever be able to do a kipping pull-up and the day I did I don’t think I’ve ever been so excited and the people who were there could see in my face how happy I was. Especially considering I had been practice everyday for over a week.
  16. Tell us something about yourself that not a lot of people know about? The weirder the better. Well, since I’m only 16 I have had zero life experiences… (My mom and dad said to put I suck out of a coke bottle like a kitten.)
  17. Do you have any advice for new Crossfitters? If I could give any advice it would be to not give up on workouts. Some of them you might feel like just dying in the middle but if you finish the whole thing, you’ll still feel like dying, but you’ll feel so accomplished.
  18. Who is your favorite Crossfit Athlete? My absolute favorite CrossFit athlete is a Camille Leblanc-Bazinet ????
  19. Describe yourself in one word: Sassy
  20. If you had to program a WOD, what would it be?
    8 min AMRAP
    200 m run
    8 pull-ups
    8 power cleans
